Parents can see nearly the entire mountain from the base lodge deck while the kids are in lessons. It is the perfect setup for a day where everyone actually wins.

Gateway to the Yellowstone Ecosystem
The Southern Entry. Pinedale is the southern entrance of the Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest intact temperate ecosystem in the lower 48 states. Grand Teton National Park is just 90 minutes north, and the South Entrance of Yellowstone is roughly two-and-a-half hours up US 191.
The Open Corridor. Unlike the northern approaches that funnel millions of visitors through the same gates, the southern corridor stays quiet. Here, the wildlife is real and the roads are open. You get the same legendary landscapes without the lines. This is the way Wyoming was meant to be seen.
The Mule Deer & Pronghorn Migrations
Twice a year, between 4,000 and 5,000 mule deer traverse a 150-mile corridor through Sublette County in the longest recorded ungulate migration in the lower 48 states. The Red Desert to Hoback migration funnels through a 400-meter-wide passage at the Fremont Lake Bottleneck, right outside Pinedale.
In spring, they move north in the Yellowstone Ecosystem. In the fall, they return south. The pronghorn antelope migration through Sublette County follows a similar path and is one of the longest in the continental United States.

Fly Fishing: Green River, New Fork River & 1,300+ Lakes
The Water Most People Miss. The Green and New Fork Rivers are designated red ribbon streams with vibrant trout populations. This is Wyoming fly fishing at its finest. Whether you are hunting Cutthroat, Rainbow, Brown, or Brook trout, the rivers here are world class. If you are looking for a challenge, the deeper lakes hold trophy Mackinaw, while the high country hides the legendary Golden trout.
Records and Solitude. Over 1,300 lakes surround the Wind River Range and most are barely touched. Sublette County holds the Wyoming state records for both Golden and Brook trout. This is the fisherman's paradise that serious anglers quietly keep to themselves.

Wind River Range Hiking & Backpacking
The High Country. The Wind River Range is one of the most pristine and undervisited wilderness areas in America. The Bridger Wilderness alone covers 428,000 acres of the Bridger Teton National Forest. With over 1,300 lakes and hundreds of miles of trail, it offers a level of solitude you simply cannot find in the national parks.
Day Hikes. You don't have to go deep to see the best of it. Local favorites like Seneca Lake, Lost Lake, Photographers Point, and the Fremont Lake Rim offer massive payoffs within a day's trek. Most of these begin at Elkhart Park, our main trailhead and the gateway to the high country.
Multi Day and Backpacking. For those going further, the range holds legendary destinations. Titcomb Basin, Cirque of the Towers, and the Glacier Trail Loop are world class routes that draw mountaineers and backpackers from across the globe.
The Peaks and Trails. Gannett Peak is the highest summit in Wyoming at 13,804 feet. It is a serious objective for serious climbers. Pinedale is also a primary gateway for the Continental Divide Trail. Thru hikers regularly pass through our doors to resupply, recover, and gear up for the next leg of their journey.
Mountain Biking & Trail Running
The Rides: The mountain biking near Pinedale is epic and largely undiscovered. The Sublette Trails Association maintains an extensive network across the region, ranging from technical singletrack that pushes into the Wind River Range to accessible loops for all skill levels. If you are looking for a relaxed, family-friendly option, the Olivia Pope Trail offers a paved path right in town.
The Runs: In Wyoming, most hiking routes double as premier trail runs. Whether you are training for an ultra or just looking for a morning loop with a view, our trails provide the vertical and the terrain to test any athlete. Bring the legs.
Bike tune-up needed? The self-serve bike shop is right downstairs at the inn. Free for all guests.
Fremont Lake
The High Desert Coast. Wyoming's second largest natural lake is just three miles from Pinedale. Sitting at the base of the mountains, it is a deep, glacial lake that serves as the perfect backdrop for an afternoon on the water or the ice.
Summer on the Water. When the sun is up, the lake is the hub for kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming. We have sandy beaches that feel like a hidden coast and boat rentals available for exploring the deeper reaches. If you are here at the right time, you can catch the annual Sailing Regatta under the peaks.
The Winter Hub. The adventure doesn't stop when the lake freezes. In the winter, the thick mountain ice becomes a playground for ice fishing, skating, and snowmobiling.
Any Season. Whether you are here for a high speed boat ride or a quiet morning on the shore, Fremont Lake is worth an afternoon in any season. It offers some of the best Wind River Range views in the state without ever leaving the shoreline.
Green River Lakes
The Iconic View. Located about 52 miles north of Pinedale, this is one of the most photographed spots in the state. The jade-green water sits at the base of the range, perfectly reflecting the sheer, iconic face of Squaretop Mountain.
The Northern Gate. This is more than just a photo op. It serves as the primary hiking access into the northern Wind River Range. Whether you are walking the lakeshore or heading deep into the backcountry, the scale here is immense. It is a necessary pilgrimage for anyone looking to see the true heart of the Wyoming wild.

Snowmobiling
Sublette County is home to over 300 miles of groomed snowmobile trails that cut through some of the most dramatic winter terrain in the West. From wide-open mountain meadows to high-country forests, the riding here offers views that will stop you mid-throttle.
The Merna Connection: For the real Wyoming experience, head to the North Horse Creek Trailhead near Merna. This is the primary gateway to the Wyoming Range and the legendary Greys River drainage. It's where you'll find the deep powder and big-mile loops that the crowds haven't touched. Whether you're staying on the groomed path or dropping into the backcountry, this is a world-class playground that feels entirely your own.

Horseback Riding
The ranching landscape of the region is best understood from the back of a horse. This is the original way to see this country, offering a perspective on the terrain that you simply can't get from a trail or a road.
Jackson Fork Ranch. We offer exclusive access to our sister property, Jackson Fork Ranch, located in the stunning Upper Hoback Valley near Bondurant. This is a premier working ranch where the mountain peaks meet the river bottom. Whether you are looking for a gentle ride through the valley or a more rugged trek into the surrounding hills, we can arrange an experience that feels authentic to the spirit of the West.

Skijoring
Out here, it is done with horses. A skier, a horse, a snow course, and full speed. This is a Wyoming winter tradition done properly in Pinedale. It is part rodeo, part alpine race, and entirely unique to the region.
The Races. Pinedale is home to some of the most competitive skijoring in the state, drawing top-tier riders and skiers for high-stakes weekend events. If you are here during race season, it is the one thing you cannot miss. Ask us at the front desk for the current race schedule and the best places to catch the action.
Ice Skating & Hockey
In Pinedale, life moves to the ice as soon as the temperature drops. Whether it is a fast-paced local game or a quiet morning on the lake, we have the facilities and the terrain to make the most of the season.
The Sublette County Ice Arena. The local arena is a full-service facility and the heart of the region's ice sports. With ice available 11 months out of the year, it offers everything from skate sharpening and a pro shop to rentals. Hockey is a way of life here; we recommend checking the schedule for local league games — the energy is unmatched. For a more relaxed pace, they offer regular public skate and "stick and puck" hours for all ages.
The Wild Ice. When the winter conditions are right, the skating moves outside to Fremont Lake and Half Moon Lake. There is nothing quite like skating on thick, clear mountain ice with the Wind River Range as your backdrop. It is some of the most spectacular outdoor skating you will find anywhere in the West.
Hunting in Sublette County
The Premier Destination. Sublette County is one of Wyoming's premier hunting destinations. From the high-country elk of the Wind River and Wyoming Ranges to the mule deer and antelope of the high desert, this is the region serious hunters have on their list.

LATE JULY
Sublette County Fair
Held in Marbleton, about 45 minutes south, this is the kind of county fair that reminds you what fairs are supposed to feel like. Livestock shows, professional rodeo, carnival rides, and fair food. It’s the community centerpiece of the summer.
SUMMER
The Green River Drift
Continuously operating since the 1890s, the Green River Drift is the nation’s first ranching tradition listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a 58-mile cattle drive through Sublette County that has happened every summer for over 130 years. It is not a reenactment. It is the real life of the West, still happening today.
JULY 4
Chuckwagon Days
If you are here for Independence Day, head to Big Piney for Chuckwagon Days. From the pancake breakfast to the rodeo and the fireworks, it is a high-energy, small-town celebration of everything that makes Wyoming great.
YEAR-ROUND
Museum of the Mountain Man
The fur trade era of the 1800s centered right here along the Green River. This museum offers world-class exhibits, artifacts, and a deep dive into the history of the mountain men who first mapped this wilderness. It adds a layer of depth to the landscape that you’ll carry with you into the mountains.

Green River Rendezvous
Every July since 1936, Pinedale comes alive for the Rendezvous. It’s four days of historical reenactments, nightly rodeos, a massive parade, and the famous "Trader’s Row." It is one of Wyoming’s most distinctive cultural events and a primary reason to be here in the summer.
WINTER
Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race
Pinedale and Big Piney/Marbleton are key stages for this world-class sled dog race. It’s one of the premier events in the lower 48, bringing professional mushers and elite dog teams from around the globe. It’s free to the public and a great way to see the bond between these athletes and their dogs.
ROAD & TRAIL RACES
If you’re coming to test your lungs at 7,000+ feet, Pinedale has a race for every season.
SEPTEMBER
Race to Raise
(Formerly Pinedale Half Marathon) This is the local classic. It’s a challenging out-and-back half-marathon and 10K that takes you from town toward the shores of Fremont Lake. It’s the perfect way to see the fall colors and experience the high-desert air.
JULY
Midnight on the Mesa
A unique night-run experience under the massive Wyoming sky. It features a half-marathon, 10K, and 5K, plus a 6-hour relay for those who want to see how many miles they can clock before the sun comes up.
MARCH
The Drift (Human Powered)
As mentioned, this is the winter version of the historic cattle drive. Whether you’re running the 13-mile half, the 28-mile marathon, or the 100-mile ultra, you are competing against the elements in the highest-elevation winter race in the country.
